Department for Transport announces £63m for EV charging infrastructure

14th July the Department for Transport (DfT) announced the funding package to support electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
This investment is aimed at delivering cross-pavement charging solutions for households without driveways, alongside support for electrifying parking facilities at NHS Trusts and business depots across the UK.

Of particular relevance to Street Works UK members, £25 million has been allocated specifically for cross-pavement charging solutions for households without driveways. This aims to give residents access to cheaper household electricity rates, potentially saving up to £1,500 per year compared to the cost of running a petrol or diesel vehicle.

The innovative cross-pavement technology will enable charging cables to run safely beneath pavements, connecting homes directly to vehicles parked on-street.
